Moving from being dependent on the Home Office and not being allowed to work to gaining refugee status and becoming independent can be a difficult process. This is due to many difficulties such as language barriers, to not being able to navigate the job market to finding money for a deposit on a first rent. Many refugees fall into destitution and homelessness in this time.
In response to this greatly difficult period experienced by many refugees, Borderlands has bought a property to house a small handful of refugees at one time. Tenants can only stay for six to twelve months, to ensure the house is used as a springboard to independence.
